Hirewell has been retained by a National Contractor to find a Controller to oversee all financial aspects of their growing construction efforts. Our client is active in a dozen plus of states across the Country , and they are looking to grow their platform aggressively in the near future. This is an amazing opportunity for a CRE Accounting / Finance professional to continue to advance their career as they are instrumental in company growth! This position will be held in Chicago's North Suburbs.
Responsibilities
- Financial Management & Reporting: Oversee all financial aspects of development projects, including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and preparation of quarterly reports, ensuring compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and company policies.
- Cost Control & Oversight: Lead the Development Coordinator team in managing monthly draw processes, disbursements, and cost control measures to optimize project expenditures while maintaining strict adherence to internal protocols and financial coding standards.
- Partner & Stakeholder Coordination: Manage financial relationships with lenders, investors, and joint venture partners, ensuring ongoing compliance with financial agreements and regulatory requirements.
- Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Supervise and mentor coordinators, and collaborate closely with Development, Investment, and Property Management teams to support strategic decisions and facilitate smooth transitions from development to operations.
- Process Improvement & Innovation: Drive continuous improvement by implementing best practices in financial reporting and accounting, and developing streamlined procedures for new development projects.
Qualifications
- 4-year degree required, with a strong preference for Accounting or Finance major
- CPA or CMA certification is strongly preferred
- 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance roles within the construction or real estate development industry. Proven experience managing the draw process and partner compliance in a multi-entity environment.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and familiarity with construction accounting practices. Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Yardi) and Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP systems is a plus.
