Overview
Our client is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead the full financial strategy, governance, and operational execution of a rapidly scaling fintech/SaaS company. As a core member of the executive leadership team and a strategic partner to the CEO and Board of Directors, the CFO will own company-wide financial health, long-range planning, risk management, capital strategy, and operational excellence across all finance functions.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned fintech finance leader with deep FP&A, capital markets, and regulatory experience—capable of guiding a mid-sized company through rapid growth, efficiency scaling, and enterprise-level maturity. This executive will oversee Finance, Accounting, Financial Operations, Treasury, Investor Relations, and Procurement, while influencing pricing, GTM strategy, product economics, and company-wide performance.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Executive Leadership
- Serve as the CEO’s top financial partner, defining financial strategy aligned to company vision, competitive landscape, and multi-year growth objectives.
- Own the company’s long-range plan (LRP), annual operating plan (AOP), and quarterly reforecast cycles.
- Translate financial insights into high-impact recommendations for the Board, Executive Team, and company leadership.
- Align financial strategy with organizational OKRs, product investments, market expansion, and capital allocation priorities.
Capital Markets, Treasury & Corporate Finance
- Lead capital strategy including equity/debt financing, credit facilities, capital structure optimization, and investor relations.
- Serve as the primary financial voice to investors, analysts, and board members.
- Manage cash flow, liquidity planning, treasury operations, and financial risk management.
- Oversee M&A strategy, due diligence, integration modeling, and buy/build/partner analysis.
Revenue Strategy, Pricing & Fintech Economics
- Own revenue forecasting frameworks for:
- SaaS subscription (ARR/MRR)
- Usage-based and consumption revenue
- Payments, transaction volume, and interchange economics
- Lending, credit risk, or float-based revenue (as applicable)
- Develop pricing strategies and monetization models in partnership with Product and GTM.
- Oversee unit economics modeling, margin expansion strategy, cohort analysis, and customer lifetime profitability.
Financial Operations, Reporting & Governance
- Oversee the creation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages for the Executive Team and Board.
- Ensure accurate, timely close cycles in partnership with Controller/Accounting leadership.
- Build and maintain real-time dashboards for performance visibility across revenue, profitability, and operational spend.
- Strengthen internal controls, procurement governance, spend discipline, and audit-readiness across the organization.
Budgeting, Cost Optimization & Operational Efficiency
- Own company-wide budgeting, including detailed bottoms-up budgets for Engineering, Product, Sales, Marketing, and G&A.
- Implement rigorous budget vs. actual reviews and ensure accountability with functional leaders.
- Drive cost efficiencies across cloud spend, compensation, vendors, software, and operating expenses.
- Oversee headcount planning and workforce investments in collaboration with People Ops and departmental leaders.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Strategic Decision Support
- Act as a strategic partner to:
- Product: pricing, new product economics, margin analysis
- Sales/GTM: pipeline forecasting, quota coverage, compensation design
- Engineering: cloud infrastructure cost strategy and R&D investment modeling
- Marketing/Growth: CAC/LTV, ROI measurement, attribution, and GTM efficiency
- Provide financial oversight for high-impact initiatives including market expansion, partnerships, new verticals, and M&A.
Financial Systems, Infrastructure & Automation
- Own the company’s financial systems architecture and roadmap (ERP, FP&A tools, BI systems).
- Drive automation and data accuracy across FP&A, Accounting, Revenue Ops, and operational finance.
- Ensure seamless system integrations across HRIS, Salesforce, billing, revenue recognition, and analytics tools.
Compliance, Risk Management & Regulatory Oversight
- Ensure adherence to GAAP, SOX-lite controls, and fintech-specific regulatory requirements.
- Partner with Legal, Compliance, and Security on audits, licensing requirements, KYC/AML (if applicable), and financial risk management.
- Lead audit preparation, board governance, and compliance reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
- 15–20+ years of finance experience, with at least 6–10 years in senior leadership roles at fintech, SaaS, or payments companies.
- Track record of executive leadership at companies between 300–2,000 employees, ideally during periods of hypergrowth.
- Deep expertise in SaaS metrics, fintech revenue models, and recurring revenue forecasting.
- Strong capital markets experience: fundraising, investor relations, banking partnerships, or IPO preparation.
- Excellence in financial modeling, strategic planning, and interpreting business performance at scale.
- Direct leadership over FP&A, Accounting, Treasury, and Financial Operations teams.
- Experience with financial systems such as NetSuite, Workday, Anaplan, Adaptive, SAP, or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related field; MBA, CPA, or CFA strongly preferred.
