Job Title: Lead DevOps Engineer (with Application Development Background)

Role Overview We are seeking a Lead DevOps Engineer with a strong application development background to join a highly visible Digital Assessment team. This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for a technologist who combines deep DevOps expertise with strong software development skills. The ideal candidate is a developer-first DevOps engineer who has experience building, deploying, and troubleshooting applications across all layers of the stack, with a strong focus on AWS, CI/CD pipelines, and cross-platform build systems.
Key Responsibilities - Lead platform build engineering across Windows, Mac, and Chromebook environments
- Design, implement, and optimize CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and AWS tools
- Develop and manage Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation, CDK, Terraform)
- Evaluate and improve web build systems, bundlers (Webpack), and monorepo (NX) workflows
- Optimize or re-architect Electron-based desktop applications
- Troubleshoot complex build, deployment, and infrastructure issues
- Implement DevOps best practices, Git branching strategies, and release processes
- Improve build performance, reliability, and deployment confidence
- Collaborate with development, QA, and business teams for seamless delivery
- Mentor engineers and drive DevOps maturity across the team
- Enhance security practices including dependency management and vulnerability remediation
Required Qualifications - 5 years of experience in DevOps / Build Engineering / Platform Engineering
- Strong application development background (C, JavaScript, HTML, CSS)
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, AWS CodeBuild/CodePipeline)
- Deep expertise in AWS services (Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, EC2, CloudFront, CloudWatch, SNS/SQS, IAM, VPC, Route53)
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation, Terraform, or CDK)
- Strong experience with Windows build environments and OS-level configurations
- Expertise in web component bundlers (Webpack or similar)
- Experience building and supporting web and desktop application pipelines
- Strong troubleshooting skills across application and infrastructure layers
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Proven ability to mentor and influence engineering teams
Preferred Qualifications - Experience with Electron-based desktop applications
- Experience working in monorepo environments (NX or similar)
- Exposure to Generative AI / Agentic AI
- Experience with cloud cost optimization
- Familiarity with PagerDuty or similar support tools
- Experience in enterprise-scale DevOps environments
- Experience standardizing Git workflows and release strategies
