The Field Service Repair Technician is responsible for supporting Red Cat’s unmanned aerial systems (UAS) through field-based diagnostics, repair, maintenance, and customer support. This role serves as a key technical point of contact between customers, engineering, and internal service teams, ensuring operational readiness, system reliability, and customer satisfaction across Red Cat’s product portfolio.
- Diagnose and repair UAV hardware and software issues
- Perform component-level repairs, soldering, calibrations, and system adjustments
- Conduct routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and firmware/software updates
- Install and integrate new UAV systems, payloads, and communication equipment
- Support customer unboxing and preflight checks
- Perform field-based testing and repairs at customer locations
- Support rapid turn repairs (RTR) and time-sensitive operational needs
- Provide on-site technical training and best-practice guidance
- Capture and communicate field feedback, failure trends, and improvement opportunities
- Complete service documentation, work orders, and test reports
- Ensure compliance with aviation regulations and safety standards
- FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate with 100+ flight hours
- 4+ years hands-on experience with UAV systems and hardware/software integration, maintenance, diagnostics and repair
- Strong electronics, avionics, and mechanical troubleshooting skills
- Experience with quadcopter, VTOL, and FPV platforms
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools (multimeters, circuit testers)
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills
- Strong customer-facing professionalism and situational awareness
- Experience using MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to obtain HAZMAT certifications if required
- DoD Secret clearance desired, or the ability to obtain
- Prior military experience a plus
- Technical certification or degree in electronics, avionics, or related field preferred (or equivalent work experience)
- Experience working with DoD, public safety, or enterprise UAV programs (preferred)
- Frequent travel to domestic and international customer sites, including remote or demanding environments
- May involve physical labor and on-call support
- This position requires 65% travel, offering an opportunity to engage directly with customers, enhance operational capabilities, and shape the future of Red Cat’s Field Support initiatives
- Must be able to walk, stand, and navigate large indoor and outdoor facilities for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move materials and equipment weighing up to 25 lbs on a regular basis.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required in designated areas or when performing specific tasks, in accordance with safety protocols and company policy.
- May be required to climb ladders, stoop, kneel, or crouch during inspections, maintenance walk-throughs, or emergency response situations.
- Regular exposure to facility operations including noise, dust, temperature fluctuations, and industrial equipment.
- Occasional off-hours or weekend work required for emergency facility responses or projects as needed
- Requires frequent use of a computer and other standard office equipment for documentation, communication, and coordination tasks.
