Position Summary
The Installation Engineer is responsible for the installation, integration, and initial verification of Mevion’s S250i and S250-FIT proton therapy systems at customer sites. The role involves heavy mechanical rigging, precision electromechanical assembly, and light software/electronics troubleshooting within a regulated medical device environment.
Installation Engineers work as part of a small team (typically 2–3 people) to complete complex installation activities. The position requires disciplined adherence to Work Instructions (WIs), strong communication within the team and with project management, and thorough handoff practices when arriving onsite or transitioning off a project. The Installation Engineer also contributes to continuous improvement through identification of procedural gaps and support for updates to installation documentation and work practices.
Key Responsibilities

Tools, Equipment & Site Readiness
Assist with procurement, calibration, and management of installation tools and equipment.
- Support assessments of site readiness and participate in the movement and placement of heavy components using approved rigging equipment.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety requirements and procedures, including lockout/tagout, fall protection, lifting protocols, and site-specific safety rules.Work safely around high magnetic fields, high voltages, radiation-producing devices, and compressed or cryogenic gases.
Education, Training, and Experience:
- Associate’s degree in electronics, mechanical engineering technology, mechatronics, or a related discipline preferred; equivalent technical or military experience considered.
- 3–10 years of hands-on experience installing, maintaining, or troubleshooting large electromechanical or industrial equipment.
- Experience with any of the following is a strong plus: high-voltage systems, high-vacuum systems, RF equipment, or cryogenic/superconducting systems.
- Ability to function effectively as part of a small installation team with shared responsibilities.
- Skilled in the use of power tools, precision measurement tools, and mechanical assembly equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout specifications.
- Proficiency documenting installation activities, deviations, and troubleshooting steps.
- Experience operating rigging equipment such as forklifts, hoists, or similar devices.Proficiency with standard office software, including Microsoft Office.
Physical and Environmental Considerations:
- Ability to stand for extended periods; climb stairs and ladders; bend, kneel, and work in confined or restricted positions.
- Ability to routinely lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 lbs.; heavier loads managed with proper lifting devices or team assistance.
- Ability to work safely around high magnetic fields, high voltages, radiation-producing equipment, and compressed or cryogenic gases.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and utilize fall-protection equipment as required.
- May be required to work second shift or extended hours to meet project or testing milestones.
- Routine exposure to magnetic fields above 5 gauss; individuals with pacemakers, automatic defibrillators, or similar implants are not eligible for this position.
- Must be able to use standard office equipment, including computers and communication tools.
