As a Lead Accountant, you will oversee monthly bookkeeping and accounting for a diverse portfolio of clients as well as reviewing and approving client tax returns business. Acting as the primary liaison between clients and your team, you’ll address questions, solve problems, and make decisions to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
Responsibilities:
• Serving as the primary contact for clients, ensuring clear and effective communication.
• Conducting Discovery calls and preparing accurate and timely proposals for bookkeeping leads.
• Preparing, reviewing and approving business client tax returns (1120s, 1120 and 1065 tax returns).
• Overseeing month-end close processes for monthly accounting clients, ensuring an accurate and on-time close.
• Coordinating and supervising bookkeeping tasks with your bookkeeping team.
• Reviewing and approving sales tax reports as needed.
• Preparing concise, insightful and timely monthly financial reports for clients' executive teams.
• Leading, assessing and mentoring a team of 1–3 bookkeepers.
• Assisting with onboarding new clients and setting up appropriate accounting systems and processes.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Measurable KPIs:
• Monthly Recurring Revenue Management – Oversee monthly Bookkeeping and/or Accounting service clients; Target >= 2.5 times your monthly gross salary
• Tax Return Revenue Management – Review and approve business tax returns; Target: >=$50,000 in tax revenue
• Tax Return Review Cycle Time – Average number of days between draft completion to return review and approval; Target: 5 days
• On-Time Filing Rate - % of business tax returns, with full client information received, that are filed by the due date or extended due date; Target: 100%
• Tax Return Accuracy - % of returns reviewed with zero errors noted during partner review; Target: >=95%
• Month-end Close Timeliness - % of time each Accounting services client’s books are closed within 10 business days; Target: >=95%
• Month-end Close Accuracy – Number of journal entries posted as a result of CFO review. Target: >= 1 per entity per month
• Response Time to Client or Team Inquiries – Average time to respond to client and internal messages, includes acknowledging receipt of message with a set timeline to fully respond with an answer. Target <=24 hours
• Client profitability - gross profit margin by client. Target: >=65% for Bookkeeping Services clients and >=50% for Accounting/CFO Services clients
• Proposal Turnaround Time – Number of business days between Discovery call and proposal completion; Target: 2 business days
• Task Completion Rate - % of Lead Accountant tasks and team tasks completed on or before deadline. Target: >= 95%
Must-Have
• CPA license.
• Experience leading remote teams or supervising team members.
• 5+ years of experience preparing business tax returns.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and QuickBooks Online.
• Strong technical accounting and tax accounting skills.
