Position Overview
The Patient Scheduler serves as a primary point of contact for patients and external partners, ensuring appointments are scheduled accurately and efficiently. This role plays a key part in patient access, insurance verification, and coordination between patients and clinical teams—delivering compassionate, detail‑oriented support in a fast‑paced healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Schedule patient appointments via phone and electronic correspondence and accurately document them in the system
- Collect, verify, and communicate patient insurance eligibility and benefit details
- Educate patients on insurance verification and estimated financial responsibility prior to visits
- Confirm appointments and provide clear instructions regarding time, location, and visit requirements
- Create, update, and maintain patient records, including demographics and required documentation
- Coordinate with referring provider offices to obtain necessary records or information
- Collaborate with healthcare providers and internal teams to ensure efficient appointment workflows
- Respond promptly and professionally to patient inquiries, escalating concerns when appropriate
- Assist insurance verification staff as needed
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations
- Perform additional related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- 2+ years of experience in customer service, scheduling, or healthcare settings
- 1+ year of experience working with EHR systems (athenaOne preferred)
- Experience in a remote, high‑volume call environment strongly preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to multitask and manage time effectively in a fast‑paced environment
- Proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and related software
- Customer‑focused, empathetic, and professional demeanor
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
Work Environment
- Fully Remote
- Must reside and work in PST or MST time zones
Compensation
- Pay Rate: $21.00 – $25.00 per hour
- Overtime: Paid at 1.5x
