S. R. Gambrel, Inc. is an influential interior design firm specializing in both residential and commercial commissions. Founded by Steven Gambrel in 1996, the firm's work has been consistently featured in Architectural Digest (AD 100), Elle Decor, the New York Times, Town and Country, and others. Our projects can be found both in and around Manhattan and the Hamptons, as well as Chicago, Montana, Virginia, Aspen, Vail, Miami, London, Hong Kong and Zurich.
We are seeking a part-time contract accountant to work with the in-house controller on New York State tax filings, payroll reconciliation, general journal entries and adjustments, and communications with the CPA's office.
Responsibilities
- Filing monthly and quarterly New York State Sales Tax, Corporate Rent Occupancy Tax, PTET Tax with New York State
- Conduct balance sheet reconciliations and account analyses to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
- Maintain the general ledger using QuickBooks DESKTOP and Excel; ensure all journal entries are accurate and timely.
- Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and supporting schedules.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- Demonstrated proficiency with QuickBooks Desktop, especially QuickBooks integration with FileMaker and QuickBooks with Excel, QuickBooks Pro Advisor ideal
- Experience with purchasing and purchasing software; design firm experience a plus
- Experience with NYS tax filing website
- In-depth knowledge of accounting concepts including double entry bookkeeping, accrual accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliation.
- Excellent communication skills for preparing financial reports and collaborating with the primary business and CPA’s office
- Proven experience in corporate accounting with a strong understanding of GAAP
