The Role
We’re seeking a Senior Accountant with strong technical accounting skills and experience supporting real estate and construction clients, along with the ability to work across other industries. This role is hands-on and client-facing, with responsibility for owning accounting accuracy, improving processes, and serving as a trusted point of contact for clients.
You’ll work independently while collaborating closely with the team, exercising sound judgment and ownership over your work. As Illumination continues to grow, this role is designed to evolve into an Accounting Lead or Manager-level position, with responsibility for reviewing work, mentoring team members, and managing multiple staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Own full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of clients, including real estate, construction, and other operating businesses
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements and month-end close deliverables
- Maintain and refine charts of accounts, including property- and entity-level structures
- Review AP, AR, and payroll for accuracy and completeness
- Perform and review balance sheet reconciliations
- Monitor budgets, cash flow, and client performance metrics
- Identify accounting issues and resolve them proactively
- Work across cloud-based accounting systems, including Yardi and QuickBooks Online
- Support software integrations, automation, and accounting process improvements
- Collaborate with team members using Microsoft Teams and project management tools
- Provide guidance, review support, and mentorship to other team members as the firm grows
Qualifications
Required
- Real estate and/or construction accounting experience
- 6+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a multi-client or advisory environment
- Strong understanding of accrual-based accounting and financial statement preparation
- Experience independently managing client accounting engagements
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and sound judgment
- Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills
Preferred
- Yardi and Procore experience
- Experience working across multiple industries
- Experience with job costing, property-level reporting, or multi-entity structures
- Interest in mentoring, reviewing work, and growing into a leadership role
- Interest in process improvement and accounting technology
