The mission of the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is to promote and support a workforce system that creates value and offers employers, individuals and communities the opportunity to achieve and sustain economic prosperity. To support our mission, we are looking for a Unit Support Assistant (USA) to join the Gulf Coast Central Department team. This position is located at 4424 North Freeway, Houston, TX.

Staff who serve customers directly will be limited to one day of telework per week during their probationary period of employment with TWC VRD, beginning with their first week of work. After successfully completing probation, this position may be approved to telework up to two days per week.
The Unit Support Assistant (USA) performs moderately complex (journey-level) social service or case management, administrative support and technical program assistance duties utilizing the ReHabWorks system and other Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) automated resources. Work involves collecting, preparing, and reviewing cases to facilitate access to medical, educational, social, and other services; and providing intervention and frequent contact with individuals, facilities, and service providers. May train others. Works under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and judgment.
GENERAL DUTIES:
- Assists in researching and analyzing statistical data.
- Responds to customer referral sources and provider inquiries.
- Develops and maintains tracking systems.
- Coordinates performance appraisal systems for the VR Manager.
- Provides mentoring.
- Safeguards confidential information.
- Provides support to the VR Manager as well as the Unit Support Coordinator’s small caseload and the Unit support team.
- Works as a member of the office team to foster safety and security of office staff, customers and property at the work place.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Eighteen (18) months experience in office practices and office support work using a personal computer in a Windows based environment.
- Experience in applying purchasing procedures.
- Experience in responding to work related inquiries.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in human services, social science, business, or a related field plus two years of full-time qualifying experience in social and rehabilitative services work, teaching and counseling persons with disabilities, social services, medical eligibility, or entitlement programs;
Twelve semester hours of graduate study from an accredited college or university may be substituted for each year of the required qualifying experience;
One additional year of full-time qualifying experience may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of the required college.

Duty requires up to 10% travel (within the state of Texas) and the ability to lift 10 pounds.
