Job description:
The ESS Services Engineer reports to the Service Lead and is tasked with supporting the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of installed ESS projects. During project execution, the ESS Services Engineer is responsible for ensuring the project is readying for transition to Long Term Service Agreement (LTSA). The ESS Services Engineer supports closing out the list of engineering actions and punch list items after delivery of the project. The ESS Services Engineer also provides support to company technicians, company Service Managers, and company Authorized Agents (SAA) throughout the LTSA period and O&M phase. The ESS Services Engineer is expected to have experience in optimization of DC and AC coupled Battery Energy Storage System (ESS), System integration, and ESS controller design.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering area of study
- Minimum 8 years professional experience with Systems and/or Electrical Engineering
- Knowledge in power systems, battery systems and controls
- Business understanding in electricity, power generation, energy
- Travel required an estimated 50%
Responsibilities
- Validates project documentation with project engineering team. Reviews and familiar with design specifications, block diagrams, system interfaces, and other applicable documentation during the course of his/her duties to facilitate the highest level of support can be provided to the customer and the services team.
- Provides expertise and technical interface with customer/subcontractor for supporting troubleshooting, diagnosis, and root cause analysis of all issues that arise during operations
- Understands the interfaces of the BESS, PCS, PPC/SCADA, and PMS. Interprets single line diagrams, schematics, and validates switching procedures
- Familiar with project specific requirements and customer specifications. Reviews and validates specifications, design, qualification and certification of BESS integration (Battery + PCS/MVPS + PMS) projects after transition to O&M and to include augmentation if necessary. Understands system level development of power systems, power conversion systems, and plant management/SCADA systems. Familiar with industry standards for integrating battery systems with power conversion and controls systems.
- Defines and implements action plans and creates work instructions for company technicians, customers, and Company Authorized Agents including subcontractors to perform work onsite.
- Provides support to the bid and proposal teams for technical questions that arise during the bid phase. Provide feedback concerning projects in operations to the bids and proposals team to help improve the bidding process.
- Applies technical policies, best engineering practices, and lessons learned and shares them within the engineering, services, and product teams. Submits JIRA tickets for analysis and product improvement
- Coordinates annual performance tests and generates test reports to provide to the customer.
- Provides engineering support emphasizing safety and customer satisfaction. Develops technical service bulletins and leads RCA.
- Understands NFPA 855, UL9540, UL9540A, UL1973, UL1642, UL1741SA and/or other applicable codes and standards.
