Security Engineer
Reports To: Director of Engineering
Type: Salaried, Exempt, Full Benefit Package including 401(k)
Primary Role
Provide pre- and post-sales engineering support for Security Systems, Access Control, CCTV, and Intrusion, including advanced technical guidance to Sales, Technical staff, and project teams. Assist the design team with product application and drawing review. Take ownership of complex technical issues and project responsibilities, occasionally stepping in to lead and resolve the most challenging project or client needs. Independently research and resolve installation challenges using manuals, technical documentation, and online resources. Manage all drawing requirements from bill of materials and blank drawings through construction-use shop drawings and accurate submittals for electrical and general contractor approval.
This is a high-output role on a fast-moving team, technical ownership, deadline accountability, and independent problem-solving are essential. The ability to step up and provide leadership or senior-level expertise when the situation demands is expected.
Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive system drawings and project documentation for assigned projects, managing multiple deadlines simultaneously.
- Produce accurate shop drawings and submittals for electrical and general contractor approval.
- Provide technical support to Sales, Technical staff, and internal and external customers.
- Supply installation instructions to job files.
- Assist with training internal technical and sales staff on new products and systems.
- Participate in professional development and maintain knowledge of current and emerging technologies.
- Comply with company policies and health/safety standards.
- Promote effective teamwork and collaboration.
- Step in to lead complex technical issues or project challenges as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Accountability
Accountable to the Director of Engineering, with secondary accountability to management, employees, and customers.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology (EET), or a related field, or equivalent field experience.
- Understanding of electrified door hardware.
- Ability to interpret job specifications and verify project intent.
- Knowledge of electronic systems: fire alarm, healthcare communications, paging, infant protection, and security systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience using AutoCAD for construction drawings, with proficiency in AutoCAD full version 2024 or newer.
- Experience with Revit, AutoLISP, and Trimble SketchUp is a plus.
- Strong project management and organizational skills; able to carry a full project queue without losing track.
- Ability to manage shifting priorities and a strong, self-directed sense of urgency—you don't need to be chased to hit a deadline.
- Preference for certifications in LENEL, Avigilon, DMP, Hanwha, Matrix, Identicard, Aiphone.
- Relevant systems and platforms: Avigilon, Hanwha, DMP, LENEL, Identicard, Aiphone, Matrix.

Travel
Some out-of-town travel required.
