Bright Balance Accounting provides accounting and finance services to middle market companies who are looking to augment or outsource their accounting function, lower their cost, or gain increased flexibility from exceptionally bright resources who can add value to their business. The firm has US and offshore teams who collaborate to provide transaction processing, general accounting, financial planning / analysis, and CFO advisory services. Clients range across all industries and are both family owned and private equity-backed, ranging from $20m to $200m in revenue. This boutique firm was founded by practitioners (not consultants) who have years of experience in corporate accounting and finance, and enjoy delivering and adding value to clients.
The Opportunity:
As a Senior Accountant, you play a key role in supporting the CFO/Manager and leading the Zimbabwe (Zim) team while also providing guidance to the Zim Team Lead and/or feedback to the CFO and management team. You are responsible for answering all Zim team questions, providing necessary training, and ensuring high-quality financial reporting and analysis. Your role includes reviewing and refining the work from the Zim team, maintaining process documentation, and taking on higher-level accounting tasks. Over time, you should be working toward independently managing a small to medium-sized client, handling the client relationship and all deliverables with minimal CFO involvement.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Leadership & Team Support:
- Act as the primary resource for the Zim team, answering questions and resolving issues as they arise.
- Provide training and mentorship to all Zim team members to ensure consistency and accuracy in work.
- Support the Zim Team Lead by assisting in workload management and complex issue resolution.
- Review and refine work completed by the Zim team to ensure accuracy and adherence to standards.
- Ensure that the team is entering all billable and non-billable time into the timekeeping system in order to accurately assess utilization and bill the client appropriately.
Accounting & Financial Management
- Prepare full financial statements, including analysis, review, and correction of any discrepancies.
- Identify and resolve issues from month-end close, unusual transactions, or anomalies.
- Present a complete and accurate set of financials to the CFO or manager for review.
- Independently support the Zim Team Lead in management of the full-service accounting cycle, from daily tasks to month-end close, with minimal CFO involvement.
Process Documentation & Compliance Oversight
- Review, maintain, and catalog all process documentation to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Follow up with team members to address any missing or incomplete documentation.
- Ensure all processes are documented and followed consistently across the team.
Client Management & Delegation
- Work toward independently leading a small to medium-sized client, managing the client relationship and all deliverables.
- Delegate all daily, weekly and monthly tasks that do not require specialized logins, ensuring efficient use of time.
- Focus only on high-level work and review, delegating lower-level tasks to appropriate team members.
- Ensure that the team is equipped to handle daily operations efficiently, stepping in only when necessary.
Long-Term Growth & Leadership Development
- Work toward managing one or more Zim Team Leads, overseeing their responsibilities and ensuring their teams operate efficiently.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and guidance to Team Leads, ensuring they grow in their roles and develop leadership skills so they flourish in their positions.
- Take ownership of management responsibilities, including performance evaluations, training plans, and resource allocation.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning, efficiency, and accountability within the Zim team.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
- CA/ACCA/CIMA/CPA certification or progress toward it is preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Intacct, SAP) and Microsoft Excel
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Effective communication and leadership abilities
- Advanced knowledge of financial statement preparation, analysis, and review
- Ability to identify and resolve discrepancies in financial data
- Experience in process documentation and compliance
- Ability to operate independently and take full ownership of client accounts
- Proficiency in delegating tasks and training team members
