Charge Infrastructure is seeking a hands-on accounting leader and business partner to help scale its accounting function in a fast-growing, project-based environment. This role is not a purely transactional close role; it requires an experienced accounting professional who combines strong technical execution with the ability to partner closely with operating leaders, translate financial data into insight, and drive accountability across the organization.
The Director of Accounting will report to the Corporate Controller and will be responsible for owning day-to-day accounting operations, the monthly close, consolidation, and financial reporting, while also serving as a trusted finance partner to operating leadership. As the Company continues to grow organically and through select acquisitions, this role will help ensure the accounting function remains scalable, well-controlled, and fit for growth. Success in this role depends on strong judgment, proactive communication, and the ability to lead and influence teams that are largely remote.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and manage the entire month-end close process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and transparency—not just completion—across all general ledger activity
- Lead consolidation and intercompany accounting across all Charge Infrastructure entities
- Prepare and review U.S. GAAP financial statements and footnotes, with an emphasis on clarity, consistency, and decision-useful presentation
- Serve as an embedded finance partner to key operating personnel, proactively providing financial information, analysis, and context to support project execution, margin management, billing, and cash flow
- Anticipate operational and administrative needs of the business and ensure accounting processes support—not slow down—field and corporate teams
- Support operating teams with project accounting, cost tracking, WIP, billing, and margin analysis, helping non-finance leaders understand drivers and tradeoffs
- Ensure accounting activities are compliant with U.S. GAAP, internal policies, and internal control standards, while balancing rigor with practicality
- Design, enhance, and enforce scalable accounting policies, procedures, and controls that can support continued growth and increasing complexity
- Partner with Finance leadership to identify root causes, not just symptoms, and implement process improvements that improve visibility, accountability, and performance
- Support the accounting implications of acquisitions and integrations, including onboarding new entities, aligning accounting policies, and improving post-close reporting efficiency, as applicable
- Act as a primary point of contact for external auditors, owning audit readiness and execution
- Lead, coach, and develop internal and outsourced accounting staff with a strong emphasis on clear expectations, frequent communication, and accountability in a predominantly remote environment
- Establish effective communication cadence, escalation paths, and feedback loops to ensure alignment across distributed teams
- Take ownership of special projects (systems, integrations, acquisitions, organizational upgrades) and drive them to completion
Qualifications & Experience
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting and senior corporate roles with increasing leadership responsibility
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field; CPA strongly preferred
- Deep, hands-on expertise in U.S. GAAP, close, and financial reporting, with the ability to explain implications to non-accountants
- Experience in project-based, multi-entity, or operationally complex environments; EPC, construction, infrastructure, or services experience is a plus
- Exposure to acquisitions, integrations, or rapid growth environments is preferred, with an appreciation for building processes that scale
- Working knowledge of SOX concepts, internal controls, and audit management
- Demonstrated success partnering with operations, not just reporting to Finance
- Proven ability to lead through influence, especially with stakeholders and teams that do not report directly to you
- Strong track record of managing and developing teams in remote or hybrid environments
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with Sage Intacct or comparable ERP systems, including system integrations
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to set expectations, challenge constructively, and drive alignment across a distributed organization
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive, with a bias toward ownership and continuous improvement
