The Energy Research & Development Division (ERDD) of the California Energy Commission (CEC) is seeking to hire a student assistant in a dynamic environment to support a broad spectrum of administrative activities for the Division. The student under general supervision assists with administrative and technical support duties for division; interacts with a variety of staff within ERDD and the CEC, as well as, external contractors, either while providing support to, or working collaboratively and cooperatively with other ERDD or CEC staff on various work activities.
This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.
Depending on the type of position you are applying for, a pre-employment background check consisting of one or more of the following may be conducted: employment history, professional references, criminal check: educational verification (degree, license, or official transcript) or DMV clearance. Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (fall, spring, and winter, if applicable) at an accredited college or university.

Students must be enrolled in at least: six-semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduate students; four-semester units or six quarter units for graduate students.
Students declared major must match the major(s) listed in the job posting.
Accounting, Business Administration, Communication Studies, English, Environmental Studies, Government, Journalism, Management Information System Public Policy and Administration, Human Development and community regional development, or any close related field.
F lexible workdays and work hours, Monday – Friday, between 8 AM – 5 PM. The final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor.
Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday – Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer).
- Possess a cumulative 2.0 GPA or above.
- Experience with Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel.
- Basic SharePoint and Microsoft Teams knowledge
- Ability to work in a team environment and provide excellent customer service.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of Commission staff.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Good analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Proficient in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax to effectively review and improve written content.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and objectives.Good organizational skills and attention to detail.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Personnel/Human Resources Analytics: Work with the Operations Unit’s Team Leads to become knowledgeable in the interpretation and application of State civil service process rules, regulations, and policies as well as Departmental policies and procedures related to human resources activities.
- Assist with interview coordination, onboarding and separation activities by coordinating with division leadership, various units within Human Resources Branch, Information Technology Services Branch, Portfolio Management Unit, and division’s internal contacts.
- Assist with personnel related workflows, processes, procedures, and special projects.
- Technical Reports/Analytics: Assist in processing the divisions technical reports by reviewing documents for completeness and ensuring adherence to agency publication standards by:
- Coordinating with the Operation Unit’s subject matter experts to ensure consistency in style, format, and accessibility as determined by CEC guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Understand and follow document accessibility guidelines to ensure all documents produced by ERDD staff and posted to the CEC website adhere to accessibility posting standards.
- Collaborate and communicate professionally with ERDD staff providing helpful guidance or support in formatting and ensuring documents are in compliance with American Disability Act.
- Electronically routes and submits approved documents to post on the CEC website.
- Manage a tracking system to ensure documents are routed and posted within deadlines.
Administration Duties: Provide administrative support on a variety of administration and technical projects. This may include data entry using Excel, updating ERDD databases, scheduling meetings via Outlook, and assisting the division with staff announcements, reports, and team activities.
Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.
Work is performed in an remote environment.

The decision to permit an employee to work from home is at the discretion of the supervisor or employer and may, at any time and with or without cause, unilaterally terminate the option to work from home.
