Role: Bookkeeping Specialist (Remote – U.S. or Offshore)
Compensation: $5 – $8/hour
Schedule: Part-Time (10–12 hours/week)

Overview:
We’re seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Bookkeeping Specialist to join our remote team. This is a part-time role starting at 10 - 12 hours per week, with potential to increase based on performance and business needs. A 60-day trial period will be used to assess alignment with the firm’s expectations and long-term engagement potential.
Key Responsibilities
1. General Bookkeeping
- Maintain accurate books for SMB clients using Xero and QuickBooks Online
- Categorize and reconcile bank, credit card, and loan transactions
- Enter journal entries for payroll, accruals, and corrections
- Track and manage accounts payable and receivable
- Support fixed asset tracking and capital expense categorization
- Prepare monthly financial reports, including P&L and Balance Sheet
- Assist with payroll data imports and reconciliations
- Support 1099 tracking and year-end reporting
2. Book Cleanup & Account Transition
- Audit inherited accounts for errors, gaps, and inconsistencies
- Redesign or establish tailored Charts of Accounts
- Identify and correct misclassified assets, liabilities, and balance sheet issues
- Reconcile uncategorized transactions and historical backlogs
- Ensure cleanup aligns with GAAP and tax compliance
- Develop and implement accurate account transition plans
3. Retail & Shopify Expertise
- Manage high-volume Shopify e-commerce bookkeeping with precision
- Reconcile sales, refunds, taxes, fees, and COGS flowing through Shopify
- Integrate Shopify with QBO or Xero accurately
- Match invoices, deposits, and clearing accounts with consistency
- Reconcile inventory-related COGS and track product-level margins
- Ensure accurate monthly close processes that reflect daily operations
- Troubleshoot and correct financial discrepancies
- Leverage familiarity with payment processors (e.g., PayPal, Stripe, Shopify Payments)
Qualifications
- 2+ years of bookkeeping experience, preferably in an agency or consulting setting
- Proficiency in Xero and QuickBooks Online (certification strongly preferred)
- Strong understanding of GAAP, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working independently and managing multiple clients
- Strong communication and documentation abilities
- Familiar with Shopify integrations and e-commerce accounting
Preferred Skills
- Experience with retail accounting, especially Shopify-based businesses
- Ability to work with high-volume transaction environments
- Familiarity with payroll platforms and 1099 processing
- Experience in account migrations, cleanups, and audit preparation
- Knowledge of tools like Gusto, Stripe, PayPal, and inventory-tracking systems
