Senior Accountant - Residential Properties
Location: Remote (with occasional office visits in Dallas, TX)
Compensation: $95,000 + bonus
About the Role:
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Senior Accountant to work alongside their Controller for a diverse portfolio of properties. The Senior Accountant will oversee daily accounting tasks, such as managing the general ledger and cash flow analysis. This role will also contribute to the preparation of financial statements, projections, and budget variance analyses. You’ll collaborate closely with property management teams, fund managers, and senior leadership to produce comprehensive monthly and quarterly reports that serve as essential tools for decision-making across the organization.
The Senior Accountant will also play a vital role in liaising with independent auditors, internal stakeholders, and regulatory agencies. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, adaptable, and thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating flexibility in responding to tight deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily accounting functions, cash management, and coordinate accounts receivable and payable.
- Reconcile monthly bank statements and ensure accuracy.
- Prepare job cost requisitions, capital calls, and advance requests.
- Work closely with the Controller and senior executives to forecast monthly cash flow.
- Maintain journal entries and perform in-depth general ledger analysis.
- Support quarterly and year-end closings, including the preparation of detailed work papers for balance sheet and income statement accounts.
- Prepare quarterly and year-end reports related to taxes, cash flow, & GAAP compliance.
- Create reporting templates and perform in-depth analysis using tools such as MS Excel and JD Edwards accounting software.
- Participate in special projects as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field (required).
- 3+ years of experience in real estate accounting, preferably with residential property
- CPA certification is highly preferred.
- Experience with federal and local housing agency reporting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to interact with senior leadership and various stakeholders.
- Familiarity with JD Edwards, Yardi, RealPage, or similar property management software is a plus.
