About
Dear Sir/Ma'am,
As a final-year law student, I am actively seeking permanent legal positions. While internships and
vacation work programmes provide a solid foundation, I'm also interested in assuming responsibilities
beyond that such as administrative roles. I believe additional tasks will enhance my knowledge and
skills, ultimately shaping me into a seasoned attorney who will contribute meaningfully to the legal
community. I believe the vision as well as the vacancy’s and/or role, aligns with my passion in the legal
field and honing my skills as an aspiring attorney with interests including but also not limited to
conveyancer and notary public, with an additional interest in litigation and corporate/commercial law.
I actively participated in the Sivuyile Mentorship Academy (SMA) in my first year of law school. Founded
by Sivuyile Mpateni, a former employee of the renowned Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr (CDH), one of South
Africa’s prominent top five law firms. SMA serves as a career and personal development academy for
law students where my collaborative endeavours, my strong contribution to a team my innovativeness.
This initiative helped me realise that I want to be an attorney with more than one niche, excellent
experience and exposure to various legal practices. I had the privilege of attending and observing
moot courts and engaging in masterclasses led by remarkable lawyers. These experiences exposed me
to lawyers' multifaceted work and deepened my understanding of their responsibilities. The practical
insights gained were invaluable, bridging the gap between theory and real-world legal practice.
Throughout my academic journey, I have consistently excelled in assignments and examinations. As an
earnest and highly motivated student, I constantly strive to push the envelope. My dedication fuels my
pursuit of deeper insights into the legal spectrum, and I am committed to achieving my goals.
I demonstrate a strong commitment to hard work and collaborative efforts, aiming to create the
necessary synergy. My proficiency in typing and command of the English language set me apart. As a
good listener, I am eager to learn from others, especially where I can support the Legal team and
contribute to operational efficiency. As a highly organised and detail-oriented individual, I'm confident
in my ability to deliver tasks accurately and within agreed timelines, respond to queries effectively, and
maintain up-to-date records and documents. I'm committed to managing my personal development,
handling confidential information with discretion, and contributing to a team that values excellence
and client satisfaction.
During my internship at Van Deventers & Van Deventers Incorporated, I had the opportunity to develop
my legal skills and knowledge. I conducted research on a novel "touting" case, learning about the
concept and collaborating with colleagues to find solutions. I also assisted in drafting legal notices,
such as letters of demand, and prepared apostille documents, ensuring accuracy in international legal
documentation. Additionally, I updated body corporate files for associate attorneys, maintaining
organised records. Through this experience, I gained hands-on experience in a legal setting, developed
my research and drafting skills, and learned the importance of collaboration and attention to detail in
a legal practice.
Therefore, I believe that assuming this role is the appropriate foundation for the legal disciplines I am
passionate about. Whether it involves document preparations, conducting legal research, drafting,
scheduling and coordination, filing and billing, I am enthusiastically certain that this is an area I wish to
contribute to. As a fourth-year law student at UNISA (University of South Africa), I can fulfill your
requirements by working full-time, with unwavering reliability and availability. Since my studies are
online, and I don't have to attend physical classes or visit the campus, providing me with the flexibility to accommodate legal educational roles and commitments while studying via correspondence through
UNISA.
I am excited to apply for any administrative position and eager to seize this chance. I have thoughtfully
considered what's truly important to me. This opportunity aligns with my values and goals. I understand
that this decision isn't just about the job itself but about the person I want to become and the life I want
to lead and live. I am committed to making a decision that aligns with my values and goals.
I am confident that my unique blend of strengths, transferable skills, and potential make me an
exceptional candidate for the administrative role. While I may not have direct experience, I am eager
to leverage my proactive approach, passion for learning, and adaptability to quickly learn and grow in
this position. As a coachable and enthusiastic individual, I am excited to bring a fresh perspective and
strong work ethic to your team. I am confident that my skills and dedication will enable me to make a
valuable contribution despite my limited experience.
I am confident that my competence and unique blend of academics, professionalism, disposition, and
skills will make me a valuable addition to your team.
I sincerely hope to be allowed to contribute to your esteemed team as I believe my journey there will
be instrumental in my trajectory. Thank you for your time and consideration, I eagerly await your
response.
Yours sincerely,
Joshua
