Job Description
Manna Tree is seeking a highly motivated self-starter and technically skilled Associate to join the Investments Team. Working closely with other members of the Team, the Associate will primarily focus on supporting us across the investment lifecycle, from deal origination to ongoing portfolio management. The Associate will be a team player with strong financial experience and acumen, a passion for the industry, and a strong willingness to learn.
Responsibilities:
Support the Investment Team across sourcing, due diligence, execution, and portfolio management, including but not limited to:
- Financial Modeling and Analysis: Analyze historical financial performance, unit economics, KPIs, growth drivers, and cost structure. Build detailed operating and returns models reflecting the Deal Team’s underwriting view, including integrated financial statements, capital structure assumptions, and scenario/sensitivity analyses. Clearly articulate expected returns, risk factors, and key value drivers
- Valuation Analysis: Perform valuation work using public comparables, precedent transactions, and intrinsic value methodologies. Develop a defensible perspective on appropriate entry valuation and return thresholds
- Investment Committee Materials: Draft and own analytical sections of Investment Committee (IC) memoranda and supporting materials. Synthesize financial analysis, market research, and diligence findings into clear, decision-oriented recommendations
- Industry Research: Conduct market analysis on both a deal-specific and thematic basis. Assess industry structure, competitive positioning, addressable market size, growth trends, and secular tailwinds
- Due Diligence Management: Support coordination of third-party diligence providers (financial, commercial, legal, tax, etc.), manage data room organization, track key diligence workstreams, and synthesize findings for internal decision-making. Identify risks and ensure underwriting assumptions are appropriately validated
- Portfolio Management: Monitor portfolio company performance relative to underwriting expectations. Prepare financial and KPI analyses to support board discussions and strategic decision-making. Assist with add-on acquisitions, capital raises, and exit preparation as applicable
- Networking: Attend industry events, conferences, and trade shows to support sourcing efforts and deepen sector knowledge (travel as required)
Participate in Manna Tree firm-wide development:
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment across the organization; serve as a culture evangelist and active participant in firm events
- Actively engage in the continued development and advancement of the firm
Technical Requirements:
- Advanced financial modeling skills
- Deep understanding of accounting and financial statement linkages
- Experience constructing LBO models with various debt tranches and cash flow waterfalls
- Strong command of valuation methodologies
- Ability to interpret complex financial data and translate it into actionable insights
- Proficiency in PowerPoint for professional investment materials
- Familiarity with data tools (e.g., PitchBook, FactSet, SourceScrub, Deal Cloud) is a plus
Minimum Qualifications:
- 2-3 years in a technical finance role; experience in CPG sector investment banking or private equity is preferred
- Expert ability to juggle multiple workflows and responsibilities at once
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, or a related field
- Thoughtful, imaginative, and intellectually curious with strong interpersonal and critical thinking skills
- Excellent analytical and quantitative skills with strong investment acumen
- Strong written and verbal communications and presentation skills
- Personal passion for health and wellness, and entrepreneurial spirit within a small team environment
- Maintains highest standards for ethics, integrity, and professionalism
- Superior work ethic, self-driven with attention to detail and follow-through; team player that isn’t above any task
