The
Senior Accountant is primarily responsible for the day-to-day transactional activity of the company. This role will support month-end close, analysis and reporting to ensure enterprise financial organizational success and is essential in the preparation and analysis of journal entries and financial activity; preparation of monthly general ledger reconciliations; entry and reconciliation of revenue, accounts receivable, and cash receipts; and continuous and proactive improvement of processes and controls. The Senior Accountant is able to manage and provide detailed analysis as the subject matter expert for their area of accounting responsibility, reports to the Controller or Assistant Controller and may manage one or more Staff Accountants.
- Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Support the Accounting team with the day-to-day operations by interfacing with individuals within and outside of the organization to ensure proper treatment of accounting transactions
- Prepare bank transactions and journal entries and prepare all account reconciliations and analyses as assigned
- Investigate errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports
- Take full responsibility for areas of accounting responsibility including detailed analysis as the subject matter expert with possible oversight of one or more staff accountants
- Participate in improving internal controls, policies, procedures, and documentation
- Support periodic and annual audits and tax filings and payments
- Work effectively under tight deadlines in a team environment
- Ad-hoc projects as needed
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business required; CPA preferred
- 5+ years’ experience in accounting
- Strong practical working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is required
- Proficiency with Microsoft Dynamics (Great Plains) is required
- Advanced knowledge of MS Excel essential
- Experience with insurance billing, services business, project-based accounting systems, time and materials contracts, and/or labor-based invoicing a plus
- Analytic, detail-oriented, and inquisitive
- Demonstrated ability to meet monthly closing and project deadlines
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Self-starter with a strong sense of urgency and accountability
- Desire to take on increasing responsibility
