THE COMPANY
Onward Energy operates a 6.2-GW portfolio of wind, solar, and natural-gas generation assets across the U.S. The Mankato Energy Center is a 720-MW combined-cycle plant utilizing Siemens 501F gas turbines, Nooter Eriksen HRSGs, and a Toshiba TCDF-40L steam turbine.
THE CHALLENGE
Responsible for start, stop, monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance of all plant equipment. Participates in system ownership, Maximo documentation, and ensures compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements.
THE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate control room and field equipment during routine, abnormal, and emergency conditions.
- Perform water chemistry analysis, equipment rounds, and system adjustments.
- Troubleshoot and repair pumps, valves, motors, instruments, and auxiliary systems.
- Perform CEMS calibration, small pump rebuilds, valve repairs, and equipment alignment.
- Execute work orders and preventive maintenance through Maximo.
- Support environmental compliance and safety procedures.
- Provide shift turnover documentation, logs, and reports.
- Participate in system ownership and improvement initiatives.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Other duties as assigned.
PROFILE TO SUCCEED

- Boiler license progression: 2nd Class A (12 months), 1st Class A (3 years), Chief A (5 years)
- Must Qualify as Control Room Operator within 3 years
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude
- Ability to read and interpret diagrams, manuals, and technical documentation
- High school diploma required; technical degree or prior experience preferred
- Communication, organization, and analytical skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to accomplish physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, work at heights, and operate tools.
- Must meet vision/hearing requirements and wear PPE including hard hat, eye/ear protection, respirator, and FR clothing.
- Work outdoors for extended periods of time under all weather conditions as necessary
THE WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work may occur indoors under climate-controlled conditions or outdoors under all weather conditions as necessary. Work around rotating machinery and noisy environments
- Rotating Shift Work is required
