Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Smart Building Controls Technician with commercial building experience to install, commission, and support IoT-based building systems. This role is ideal for technicians who have worked in commercial facilities, construction sites, or building automation environments and enjoy working directly with physical equipment in the field.
This position focuses on installing and commissioning IoT devices and building control systems inside active commercial buildings—not traditional IT networking or software development. The majority of work is performed on-site at commercial facilities across the United States, with up to 50% travel. Remaining time is remote for documentation, solutioning and installer partner support.

- Conduct site surveys to assess existing building systems, power availability, mounting locations, and environmental conditions
- Install and support wireless sensors, gateways, controllers, and control panels
- Interface with building automation systems (BAS) using protocols such as BACnet and Modbus. Programming PLCs may be required.
- Assist with system testing, functional verification, and commissioning
- Support LoRaWAN-based device deployments (device mounting, power-up, validation, troubleshooting)
- Coordinate with electricians, low-voltage contractors, and facility staff during installation
- Maintain accurate as-built drawings, redlines, and field documentation
- Provide basic end-user training during project turnover
- Troubleshoot hardware, wiring, signal issues, and device communication problems
- Mentor junior technicians and oversee subcontractors when required
