Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly analytical and commercially astute Investment Analyst to join our growing legal funding team. This role involves evaluating potential investment opportunities, conducting credit analysis, leading due diligence, building financial models, and developing investment papers. This is a key role that works directly with our highly-regarded investment committee and has substantial future growth and development opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluation & Due Diligence:
- Lead due diligence, assessing borrower creditworthiness, the value of underlying collateral.
- Evaluate the ecosystem to be used, including client origination, operations/file handling, counsel/legal strategy, ATE insurer, expert and other relevant contributors to success or failure.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to assess legal strategy, risks, and budgets for differing case types.
- Financial Analysis & Auditing:
- Build detailed financial models to forecast expected funding requirements, and returns.
- Develop collateral evaluation tools to determine the value of collateral against which we are to provide funding.
- Design and operate collateral and covenant tracking tools.
- Audit / Evaluate the use of proceeds and the status of collateral.
- Investment Decision Making / Implementation:
- Develop triage, investment recommendation and risk management material for the Investment Committee to consider the strengths and weaknesses of individual financing opportunities.
- Research new case types to act as potential collateral, develop criteria for success and identify the best service provides to engage to optimise success.
- Support the negotiation and structuring of funding agreements and terms.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Law or related fields. Postgraduate legal or financial qualifications (e.g. LPC, CFA, ACA) are an advantage.
- Experience:
- 5+ years of relevant experience in investment analysis.
- 2+ years of experience in credit analysis.
- Experience in legal or litigation funding, or evaluating the credit of legal-related firms is an advantage.
- Skills:
- Excellent research, analytical and financial modelling abilities.
- Commercial acumen and ability to assess risk vs return in non-traditional asset classes.
- Effective communicator with strong presentation skills.
Preferred Attributes:
- Proactivity and resourcefulness with ability to manage multiple priorities / projects at one time.
- Familiarity with UK legal processes and the consumer protection law.
