Job Overview
As an Accounting Clerk, you will play a pivotal role in managing and maintaining our clients’ financial records, primarily focusing on sales tax. Your meticulous attention to detail will ensure the accuracy of financial documentation, allowing you to prepare, file, and remit sales tax returns for clients in both the U.S. and Canada. Timely compliance with all regulatory requirements will be the hallmark of your contributions.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather sales data from various accounting and tax software platforms such as QuickBooks Online, Shopify, WooCommerce, NetSuite, Avalara, and TaxJar
- Verify the accuracy of clients’ sales data
- Prepare drafts of clients' sales tax returns for monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual filings, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards
- Engage with clients to secure approvals and process payments for pending filings
- Provide guidance to clients regarding best practices, updates in tax law, and other tax-related inquiries
- Manage multiple deadlines effectively while prioritizing tasks
Required Skills
- Strong proficiency in Excel and familiarity with accounting/tax software programs (QuickBooks Online, Shopify, WooCommerce, NetSuite, Avalara, TaxJar, etc.)
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, capable of articulating complex tax concepts clearly
- Analytical mindset with the ability to identify client challenges and deliver tailored solutions
- Proven ability to manage deadlines and prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment
- A collaborative spirit and a commitment to exceeding client expectations
Qualifications
- Availability for a full-time role (5 days a week)
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field is preferred
- Experience with tax return filing, especially sales tax returns, is advantageous, though we welcome motivated candidates willing to learn
